About Ali

Ali has a background in professional dance, and originally trained as a teacher in ballet, modern and Latin. She started practising yoga in her early twenties and has experience of several styles of practice: the meditative dimension of yoga has become increasingly important to her.

Ali suffered from a back injury in 2010, and, noticing how much the body's responses were conditioned by the mind, was grateful to discover how the healing process could be helped by tuning into the body, heart and mind with honest inquiry. She completed her 200-hour Vinyasa Teacher Training in 2021 and has been a teacher since then. She then went on to complete her 500-hour training at the Vajrasati Yoga School in 2023. Jim Tarran, the founder of the school, describes Vajrasati as: 'a flavour (rasa) of yoga that uses elements of traditional yoga practices to leave the practitioner in a settled, gathered state (yoga) of absorbed awareness (samadhi).'

What should you expect in the wake and release class?

Vajrasati is a deep meditative form of yoga where we allow space to listen and tune into the way things really are, moving in a way that is compassionate and honest. We use the breath as a guide. There are no expectations about experience, we try to keep the class light-hearted. Everyone is welcome.

As it is a traditional yoga class, we use props (considered an extension of the body) as support. There are classic asanas (poses) along with mindful movement and an encouragement of play to move towards a state of freedom).
