Introduction to Prose Fiction and Creative Writing – 10-Week Course
Starting Sunday April 6th @ 2- 4 p.m. Pre-booking essential
Price: £200 (provided by the Unthank School of Writing (USoW))
Do you have a story to tell but don't know how to start, or how to continue? Have you ever finished reading a book and thought, I wish I’d written that – or even, I could have written that? Got a sock drawer full of stories you never dared show anyone? A head full of ideas you only ever confide to the dog? If so, this is the course for you. A ten-week introductory course for those new to creative writing or who are looking for encouragement to continue, led by award-winning writer Sandra Jensen.
The focus of this course is to stop thinking about writing and to actually write. Whether you want to write fiction, memoir or creative non-fiction, the course will support you to write through whatever fear and uncertainty you might have, without preconceived ideas about what or how you should write. Whether you write from personal life, intuition or imagination, you will be guided to step out of your own way and open up your ‘child eyes’ to whatever wants to be expressed on the page.
The weekly sessions will include practical exercises, readings and discussion. You will be gently encouraged to finish at least one complete piece by the end of the course.

“A writer is not so much someone who has something to say as he is someone who has found a process that will bring about new things he would not have thought of if he had not started to say them.”

Her recent artistic achievements include: winner of the bosque Fiction Prize 2012; West Cork Literary Festival’s 2011 J.G. Farrell award for best novel-in-progress; Highly Commended for The Bridport Prize in 2012.
Sandra was also long-listed for the 2011 Mslexia Women’s First Novel Competition and in 2010 her short story manuscript was shortlisted for The Scott Prize.
