Chris has trained in Classical Osteopathy and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy (now University College of Osteopathy) in 2002. Like many osteopaths, he first came across the profession as a patient himself. After experiencing the benefits of osteopathic treatment, he was inspired to learn more and went straight from college to begin his training at the John Wernham College of Classical Osteopathy (now Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine). He is also a member of the Institute of Classical Osteopathy (ICO) and has completed their post-graduate foundation and applied foundation (clinical) courses in classical osteopathy. He is motivated to continue developing his professional practice and regularly attends research seminars and technique workshops.
Outside of osteopathy, Chris understands the importance of (and tries his best to achieve) a good work-life balance. He has a busy family life and is a proud parent of 3 girls - his daughter, twin step-daughters with his partner, Grace. He also enjoys road cycling, running, calisthenics and is a fair-weather kite-surfer!
Training in Classical Osteopathy has given Chris an understanding of how the body works as an integrated whole, and how to go about supporting the body’s own self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms to restore health, alleviate pain and improve mechanical integrity of the body.
He works closely with patients to get a deeper understanding of the root cause of their symptoms, and what processes have led to them. Great inspiration comes to Chris from the complexity of the human body and how even with the same symptoms, each patient’s body adapts to, copes with and presents those symptoms in different ways. He is motivated to help improve his patients’ quality of life through his work.
Chris’ treatment approach is hands-on, and uses the body’s interconnecting structures (such as the nervous system, cardio-vascular system, lymphatic system and musculoskeletal system) in order to improve health at the local tissue level and throughout the body as a whole. This system of thought applies to the mechanical aspect of pain as well as the healthy function of organs and tissues which work together to support the health of the whole body. As such, treatment of the whole body — not just the problem area — is often the preferred approach.
Treatment is individualised to each patient and is often combined with advice on posture and movement with targeted exercises. With over 16 years of clinical experience, he enjoys the broad scope of general practice within the osteopathic field. As such, he works with patients of all ages and varied health problems — not just bad backs!
Chris always aims for the best outcomes for patients in his care and believes that, when it is appropriate, working alongside other healthcare practitioners (such as acupuncturists, homeopaths, massage therapists, and nutritionists…) can achieve profound and lasting results.
