Pilates Teachers

PILATES

 

Pilates is an exercise system that focuses on strengthening the core stabilising muscles of the body and, through a specific breathing technique, helps with relaxation. These muscles are primarily the deep abdominals, which help to stabilise the pelvis and lower spine and therefore help with the relief of many back problems.

 

Pilates also works on stabilising the shoulder girdle, helping to alleviate tight shoulders and necks, and on lengthening and toning all muscles of the body. By working on the whole body, Pilates is not only a good overall work-out but also promotes balance through our muscles, ensuring that no particular group of muscles is overworked.

 

Pilates is not a cardio-vascular workout, but is a perfect adjunct to any fitness regime, promoting flexibility and helping to prevent injuries. And one of the main benefits is that it works primarily on that all-important area – the tummy!

How Pilates can help...

Pilates can be helpful for people with many  conditions, including:

The Tree of Life Studio is a beautiful, light and tranquil space, with classes of around 6-10 people. For all Pilates classes, wear loose comfortable clothing so that you can relax and move freely. It is better not to eat a heavy meal before doing Pilates. If possible leave a couple of hours after eating before a class.

 

At a new class, the teacher will usually ask if you have done any Pilates before. Please tell the teacher if you have any injuries or health conditions, and also if you are or might be pregnant. Your practice takes place on mats that are provided, together with various other props that may be used to support your exercises.

 

The teacher will guide you through the class. Each teacher works in a slightly different way, but all will ensure that you are learning and practicing pilates safely and productively.
